New Delhi, October 8 Anthropic has expanded its ‘Claude Startups’ programme to support early-stage founders, including AI-native businesses in India, as announced by Anthropic India Managing Director Irina Ghose in a LinkedIn post. The initiative offers eligible startups access to Claude products and credits, a free year of Claude Team for new users, and API credits upon approval, along with the ‘Claude Startup Stack’ providing discounts and credits across partner tools for functions such as data engineering, product design, and sales operations.
Combined, the financial benefits available to qualifying startups are described as substantial, aimed at lowering entry barriers and infrastructure costs for early-stage companies developing AI applications. The programme is open to companies founded within the last five years or funded within the last two years, with selected members receiving technical guidance through virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team.
Participants also gain community access via networking events and hackathons such as ‘Founder House’, and opportunities for commercial distribution on the Claude Marketplace. Irina Ghose encouraged founders to apply and begin building without waiting for the ‘perfect idea’, highlighting the programme’s focus on enabling action over perfection. Watch this space as the expanded programme rolls out, with no specific launch date provided in the announcement, to see how early-stage AI ventures in India and beyond leverage these resources to accelerate development.
Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI researchers with a stated focus on AI safety and interpretability, has been steadily broadening access to its Claude family of large language models since their initial release. The company’s startup-focused initiatives follow a pattern established across the generative AI sector, where leading model providers offer subsidised compute, technical support, and distribution channels to cultivate a developer ecosystem around their platforms.
Such programmes aim to reduce the substantial infrastructure costs — particularly for API usage and fine-tuning — that often constrain early-stage companies experimenting with foundation models. India’s AI startup landscape has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by a deep talent pool, rising venture capital activity, and government-backed initiatives such as the IndiaAI mission to promote domestic innovation. Early-stage founders in the region frequently cite access to affordable GPU compute and enterprise-grade model APIs as critical bottlenecks.
By extending its startup programme to India, Anthropic joins other major AI labs in competing for mindshare among developers building applications atop foundation models, a strategic priority as the industry shifts from model training to deployment and commercialisation.
The inclusion of partner-tool credits across data engineering, product design, and sales operations reflects a broader recognition that AI-native start
