ElevenLabs Releases AI Michael Caine Narration of Homer’s *The Odyssey*

For Londoners raised on the gravelly warmth of Michael Caine’s voice, the news lands differently. It is not a new film. It is a machine that speaks like him.

ElevenLabs, an AI audio company, has released a nearly 13-hour version of Homer’s The Odyssey through its ElevenReader app. The narrator is an artificial intelligence recreation of Caine’s voice.

Twenty characters, all AI-generated from the company’s voice library, surround him. Sound design and music, built with ElevenLabs’ own tools, fill out the production. Dustin Blank, ElevenLabs’ Head of Partnerships, said the team thought Caine “would be the perfect person to help tell this story for his part in it, and I think he does.” Blank called Caine a “national treasure” whose “voice means so much to so many people.” The timing matters.

Christopher Nolan is bringing the same epic to theaters. His adaptation is a massive Hollywood production with a budget to match.

ElevenLabs took the opposite route. No cameras. No sets.

No actor in a booth. What this means for the local audience is straightforward. For families in London who remember Caine’s voice from childhood car rides or Sunday afternoon films, the audiobook offers a way to hear him again.

Not a recording from a studio session decades ago. A new performance, generated by software trained on his past work.

The company stressed this is not about replacing the actor. It is about what his voice can still do. Caine’s involvement came through a partnership.

The goal, Blank said, is to offer audiences “a new way into a classic story that has been told.” Critics have raised questions about AI voice cloning. Consent.

Ownership. The future of acting. ElevenLabs is pushing ahead.

The Odyssey release is a demonstration of what the technology can deliver at scale. A single voice, replicated, carrying an ancient text across thirteen hours. For now, the response has been curiosity.

Fans eager for Nolan’s film have a fresh way to explore the source material. The audiobook is available now.

It costs nothing extra for app users. Blank said the company believes its version “does justice” to Homer’s work. Twenty voices.

One legend. Zero human recording sessions.

The production raises a question the industry will have to answer. If a voice can be recreated after the person has stopped recording, what happens to the craft of voice acting? What happens to the archive?

ElevenLabs is not the first company to try this, but it is the first to pair a voice of Caine’s stature with a text of The Odyssey’s weight. For local listeners, the choice is simple. Download the app.

Press play. Hear Michael Caine tell an old story in a new way.

The technology behind it is invisible. The voice is not.
