New York, October 6 — TikTok announced a suite of new AI-powered advertising tools at Advertising Week New York on October 5, 2026, aimed at simplifying ad campaigns and driving in-app shopping. The announcements were made by David Kaufman, global head of monetization product partnerships at TikTok, who stated the features are designed to ‘help advertisers improve performance while reducing effort.’ This is a significant development for advertisers, as it could make it easier for them to reach their target audience and increase sales.
TikTok introduced Agentic Commerce capabilities, including Buy Direct, an in-app checkout tool allowing users to purchase items directly from the For You feed with one click, and Shopping Assistant, a conversational AI agent that provides product details, sizing, shipping, and availability. This means that users will be able to buy products more easily, without having to leave the app.
On the retailer side, TikTok launched Agentic Leads, an AI-guided tool to capture, qualify, and convert high-intent prospects via TikTok direct messages and advertiser-owned lead forms. This tool could help retailers to better target their advertising and increase the number of sales they make through the platform.
TikTok Ad Network and Model Context Protocol
TikTok is also rolling out the TikTok Ad Network to U.S. advertisers, integrating with TikTok Ads Manager to extend campaigns across a network of nearly 400,000 apps worldwide, with built-in brand safety controls and independent measurement partnerships such as with Integral Ad Science. The platform is expanding its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, now available as a native connector across major AI platforms including Claude, Perplexity, and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry, following a reported 200% surge in advertisers using the protocol for campaign activation.
George Velonias, head of growth marketing at Wayfair Canada, stated, ‘The TikTok MCP is indispensable to our AI-powered campaign workflows including how we build campaigns, upload creative and analyze performance,’ and added, ‘TikTok is a leader in helping brands leverage AI to grow.’ This endorsement from a major retailer suggests that the new tools are likely to be popular with advertisers.
Search Ads Campaign and Future Developments
TikTok introduced Search Ads Campaign powered by Smart+, offering advanced automation across keywords, bidding, and search budgets, paired with Smart+ Creative Selection, which unifies advertiser assets, AI-generated creatives, and creator content into one workflow. These tools are being rolled out as advertisers shift focus to social search, with up to 22% of TikTok users researching products on the platform before using other search methods, according to an August 2026 Capital One Shopping report.
With 84% of marketers currently advertising on the platform, and a recent report indicating that TikTok is the top platform where marketers plan to increase ad spend in 2027, it will be interesting to see how these new tools are received by advertisers and how they impact the platform’s growth. As the advertising landscape continues to evolve, it’s likely that we’ll see even more innovative solutions from TikTok and other social media platforms.
