Instagram Introduces AI Assistant to Analyze and Improve Underperforming Reels

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on October 1, 2026, Meta, the parent company of Instagram, introduced a groundbreaking AI-powered tool, the Edits Assistant, to assist creators in understanding the performance of their Reels content. The Edits Assistant, integrated within the Instagram Edits app, analyzes audience behavior, engagement metrics, and trending patterns to offer plain-language insights and content suggestions.

Brett Westervelt, head of the Edits app, emphasized that creators requested a tool that handles analysis instead of creative generation, stating that the Edits Assistant “does the digging” while creative decisions remain with the user. The AI assistant can assess a creator’s profile, identify improvement areas, and suggest video concepts, hooks, captions, scripts, and audio based on data.

It was tested with select creators for months prior to launch, during which a food creator discovered their DIY videos outperformed cooking content, and a beauty creator found that adding a 7-second reel to longer videos boosted engagement. Meta confirmed eventual availability for all users but did not specify a global rollout timeline. The tool began rolling out on October 1, 2026, to creators in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern regions.

Users can access the tool by tapping a new chat button at the bottom right of the Instagram Edits app homepage. While the AI assistant is available to all users, usage limits apply unless users subscribe to Meta One’s Creator plan, which starts at $14.99 per month.

No regional pricing in AED, SAR, or EGP was disclosed in the announcement. Meta clarified that the tool does not generate content but instead interprets analytics to support creator decision-making. The launch of the Edits Assistant reflects a broader trend of AI assistants being integrated into social media platforms to aid performance optimization without replacing human creativity.

The tool marks a significant step forward in the integration of AI and social media, offering creators valuable insights to improve their content and engage their audience more effectively. As the AI-driven Edits Assistant continues to roll out to creators worldwide, it will be interesting to observe its impact on the content creation process and the overall performance of Reels on Instagram.

A Tool for Creators: Brett Westervelt on Edits Assistant

In an exclusive interview, Brett Westervelt, head of the Edits app, discussed the motivation behind the development of the Edits Assistant and its potential impact on the creator community. “We’ve always been focused on providing creators with tools to help them succeed on Instagram,” Westervelt shared. “The Edits Assistant is a direct response to creators’ requests for a tool that handles analysis rather than creative generation.

They wanted a tool that could ‘do the digging’ for them, allowing them to focus on their creative vision.”

The Future of AI in Social Media

The introduction of the Edits Assistant is part of a broader trend of AI assistants being integrated into social media platforms. “The Edits Assistant is just the beginning,” Westervelt said. “We believe that AI will play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of social media.

By leveraging AI, we can help creators make data-driven decisions, create more engaging content, and grow their audiences.” As the AI-driven Edits Assistant continues to roll out to creators worldwide, it will be interesting to observe its impact on the content creation process and the overall performance of Reels on Instagram. With the help of AI, creators may find it easier than ever to understand their audience, improve their content, and achieve success on the platform.
