MEXICO CITY, September 14 — Kapital Grupo Financiero has raised US$125 million in fresh capital, the Mexico-based financial group said, with Tru Arrow Partners and Fasanara Capital leading the round and Cervin Ventures, Niya Partners and Overlook Capital participating. The bottom line: the money is earmarked for Kapital’s proprietary artificial intelligence platform and data analytics tools, for expansion of its financial services ecosystem, and for growth across Mexico, Latin America, the United States and Europe.
Kapital comes to the deal with first-half 2026 results that give investors plenty to work with. Net profit came in at nearly US$50 million.
The total credit portfolio grew 220% year over year to more than US$1.7 billion, and total deposits rose 234% year over year to over US$3.5 billion. Risk metrics stayed tight. The non-performing loan ratio was 2.86%, and the efficiency ratio was 34.9%.
The group now serves more than 350,000 active clients across Mexico, the United States, Europe and Latin America.
From Series C to a banking licence
This raise follows Kapital’s Series C round, announced in September 2025, when it brought in up to US$110 million and doubled its valuation to over US$1.3 billion. That milestone made Kapital Mexico’s first AI-focused fintech unicorn. Kapital reached full banking capabilities through strategic transactions, including the acquisition of Banco Autofin to secure a commercial banking licence.
Its dual structure — regulated banking operations paired with proprietary software engines — has accelerated corporate credit, payment processing and small and medium-sized enterprise financial services inside Mexico. René Saúl, CEO and cofounder of Kapital, said the new capital will allow the company to accelerate its next stage of growth and expand its impact in priority markets such as Mexico and the United States.
What to watch
Moving into the second half of 2026, Kapital plans to put the newly secured capital toward further AI model training, automated credit underwriting and expanding its corporate client base across North American and European markets. The raise also fits a wider regional pattern. Venture capital deployment across Latin America has concentrated in mature scale-ups with proven operational profitability and controlled risk profiles — a description Kapital’s first-half figures appear designed to support.
